Description

The Drums would be in opposite position if player preforms in front of audience.

A tabla comprises two drums, a bass drum or bayan which is the biggest of the two, played with the left hand, and the treble or dayan, to be placed on the right. The bayan features a Painted brass body whereas the dayan is carved from sturdy wooden. Both feature goatskin drum heads and camel leather straps to adjust the pitch.

The 'right hand' drum, called the dayan (also called the dahina, or the tabla) is a conical (almost cylindrical) drum shell carved out of a solid piece of hard wood. The dayan's shell has one 'open' end, covered by a composite membrane. The base of the drum has a slightly larger diameter than the top. The 'left hand' drum, called the bayan (also called the duggi) is a hemispherical bowl shaped drum made of polished copper, brass, bronze, or clay. Like the dayan, a composite membrane covers the bayan's open end. Both drums stand about 25 centimeters high. The bayan's head measures 22 centimeters across, while the dayan measures approximately 14 centimeters across.

The name 'tabla', probably derived from the Arabic word for a drum (generic), called the 'tabl'; and possibly to some extent the Turkish word 'dawal'. Another popular notion is that Amir Khursuro invented the tabla by splitting the Pakawaj into two drums. This is highly disputed. Abul Fazil, the court recorder neither mentions nor describes the tabla, leaving doubt that Amir Khursuro invented the tabla, contrary to a previously popular notion. The Muslim invaders undoubtedly influenced the culture and structure of the tabla. However, the earliest depictions and literature describing the tabla as we recognize it today come from the 18th century.

I bought these drums from ebay!:XD:
They sound so wonderful and nothing compared to any drums. These drums are so unique, I can not find anything like this in the US. There made in Bangladesh, India. Later in the future I'm gonna collect two more pairs of Tablas. Oh, they come in all different colors and style.

:star:Cool Video examples on how there played!
